After recognizing and admitting to your problem, make a commitment to yourself that it is finally time to become clean and sober. Make this commitment to yourself and to others around you. If you decide on an outpatient rehab program, the commitment will be to staying sober while being out in society. You promise to keep up with your end of the bargain.
Avoid Negative Influences
Whether someone is still using drugs or alcohol, or they are overly negative about your drug use, you should avoid them. You’re trying to turn your life around and you don’t need negative influences around you anymore. They could potentially hold you back. Rehab is about thinking about yourself and how you can best get over your addiction, not others. Avoid any negative influences or people that would be a cause for your relapse, no matter how close you might be.
Don’t be afraid to ask for support when you need it. If the rehab program you chose isn’t working out, ask to switch. Maybe you chose an outpatient program but have relapsed, and you want an inpatient program. Don’t be embarrassed to admit to what has gone wrong, and start over the right way.
